WHILE YOU SLEEP

by Flip Rosier

While you lie sleeping beside me I watch you
Gently breathing
The slow rise and fall of your breasts
The outline of all your soft roundness beneath the sheet
And I marvel once again that you are here next to me.

Laying close behind you, feeling your body pressed into mine
My arm around your waist
My hand gently cupping your breast
I bury my face in your hair and breath deep
Memorizing all that makes you so special to me.

You stir and I hold my breath, completely in tune
Listening.
Turning in your slumber you enfold me in your arms
Is it really me you hold in your dreams?
Anything else is just too painful to consider.

You moan softly, fleeing unseen dragons
Battling your private demons.
Let me into your dreams and I will be your champion
Hide behind my shield
My sword yours to command.

Let me into your heart and I will be your anchor
Trust me to never harm you
No one ever before you the rest of my days
I would lay down my life for you
If only you would accept my love.

We lie face to face in the stillness
Your sweet breath against my cheek
That wonderful "You" smell engulfs me
The warmth of your body radiating
Basking in it's glow.

Holding you, I feel my heart swell
Til I fear it will burst.
Never in my life have I loved as this
Never has one person been so much my reason for living
Never has the fear of it's loss invoked such panic.

Morpheus overtakes me, I am ready for sleep
I softly kiss your bare shoulder
And offer my nightly prayer to God
"Please," I pray, "May she awaken loving me as I love her
Completely, unconditionally, desperately, forever."
